Preparation for Session 4
Equipment: Bird and elephant puppets, bird toy, 4 books, story bag and my name tag
Revisiting earlier book: Shh! We have a plan by Chris Haughton. Introduce Too Many Elephants in this House as these kids didn’t attend NSS.
Two bird toys in the story bag. Ask kids to guess how many birds, and describe what they feel.
Today we’re looking at four books: three are kind of the same. Which one is different? Too Many Elephants in this House, Chooky-doodle-doo, Shh! We have a plan, Birdsong. (3 have bird characters.)
Look at the titles and covers of each. Predict what they might be about.
Share Shh! We have a plan, and Too Many Elephants in this House.
Game: hiding the puppets. 1. I hide and clap when kids are getting warmer/closer to the elephant puppet I’ve hidden. 2. Hiding the bird puppet – each individual hides it and the rest try to find.
Evaluation: There were four children attending with their mums. One was under two, so the stories and game were a little tricky for her. Next week, try for a couple of very simple books and activities in case she attends again. Watching the difference in littlies trying to hide things was a lot of fun!
