Recently, National Simultaneous Storytime took place again in Australia. This is a yearly event where at 11.00am, children and adults all over Australia share one specially selected read-aloud. This year, the book was Too Many Elephants in this House. Read my review of Too Many Elephants in this House, or check out my post at The Book Chook with lots of activities to try in conjunction with reading this wonderful book.
I was a visitor at my local library to join in the fun. For my “costume” I had a sign hung from my neck banning elephants from my vicinity – an elephant silhouette with a red line through it. On the stroke of 11.00am, Librarian Sue read the story aloud to an appreciative audience. Kids enjoyed making their own elephant masks and checking out a real elephant house! I love the whole idea, and wish NSS could be every day.
